The second annual guthrie symposium on newborn screening and metabolic disorders
The second Guthrie Symposium on newborn screening and metabolic disorders was held on the 106th birthday of Dr. Robert Guthrie, the “father of newborn screening”. The Guthrie Foundation, University at Buffalo (UB), Oishei Children’s Hospital (OCH), and The Children’s Hospital of Buffalo Foundation (CHOBF) hosted a full-day hybrid educational symposium to honour the life and legacy of Dr. Guthrie, whose ground-breaking work at UB and OCH has saved thousands of lives worldwide. The event included several keynote speakers, world-renowned researchers, and clinicians in genetic and metabolic disorders. The symposium sought to help revive the clinical and academic atmosphere that helped spark the newborn screening revolution in Buffalo decades ago. The symposium hosted a forum where the top physicians and scientists worldwide were able to share their knowledge with providers, families, and community stakeholders.
