With strong support from patients’ families associations, we started in August 2022 a pilot project for SMA neonatal genetic screening addressed to Bucharest area. In order to extend our project and to implement SMA newborn screening at a national level, in May 2023 a petition was initiated to the Health Minister. Regarding our screening results, we are happy to communicate that until now ten thousand babies were screened and six positive cases identified, four newborns and two siblings. All of them are having the chance to receive modern therapies, available in our country.
